Light-Matter Interaction

Coordinators: Didier Felbacq and Emmanuel Rousseau

We are developing a multi-scale approach to light-matter interaction, starting from a microscopic description based on non-relativistic quantum field theory, to formally arrive to a macroscopic representation in terms of effective quantities such as the refractive index or the dielectric constant. This theoretical framework is complemented by the study of models, including the Maxwell-Bloch model, which able to describe in a semi-classically quantum emitters interacting with metamaterials or metasurfaces. These models can help to understand the concept of quantum metamaterials that we are developing.

Our work combines theoretical studies and numerical simulations, aiming to determine the validity ranges of analytical solutions and to explore regimes where new behaviors of light and quantum matter emerge.
